Design Clinic at MIFGS

Small Spaces will be at the Melbourne International Garden Show (MIFGS), coming up in late March.  We will be offering design clinics along with other members of our professional body AILDM.  Go to http://designclinic.setmore.com/ to book a time with your designer of choice.  Of course if it’s a small garden you need advice on, this is what we specialise in; courtyards, balconies; front or back inner city gardens, (where small spaces live).   We cover Melbourne’s inner suburbs from Brunswick, Northcote, to Richmond, Prahran and down by the bay.

Winter in Melbourne

Today is the winter solstice, no doubt we are all looking forward to warm sunny days and balmy evenings, but one of the best times in Melbourne is now with beautiful crisp mornings and bright sunny days. Get out and marvel at the trees, kick the autumn leaves if they’re still about. Visit a nursery for bare rooted trees and roses. Don’t be put off because the plants all exposed, it just means the plants are dormant so the nursery can sell them cheaper without pots to take up more space. Check out all the fruit varieties available. There are lots of multi graft options which means you can get multiple fruit on one tree, perfect for small spaces.

REVISITING A CHILD & DOG FRIENDLY BACK GARDEN

We were in West Brunswick last week, preparing a front garden for renovation, and had the opportunity to revisit a garden I had worked on a couple of years ago.  A back garden for a young and growing family, complete with chooks and dog.

Wrapping up September

A gorgeous start to October, here’s the view on the way to the office. I heard Neil Robertson (formerly of Open Gardens Australia) suggest recently that the ideal garden is deciduous trees and Euphorbia!  I think he is on to something.  Here is the view on the way to my office at the bottom of the garden.
