Small Spaces has been out and about this week, between an urban farm and a delightful botanical garden, we visited The Garden Feast Nursery & Cafe for some lunch. There were Werribee greens on the menu and having just visited Mason Brothers, of course we had to have a bowl. Once lunch was done, there was time for a wonder through the nursery. I am working on a planting design for a courtyard garden in Kensington at the moment, so was keen to see what ground covers were on offer in the nursery.
Some stand outs included; Osteospermum, African Daisy, Bidens sp. ‘Bidy Boom Red Eye’.
Of course there is also the ever popular Billy Buttons, which could be Pycnosorus or Craspedia, that’s the trouble with common names! Both work well as ground covers, particularly in pots. As does Chrysocephalum semipapposum, Clustered Everlasting. I settled on this for my Kensington courtyard. It is a long flowering native of the Western Plains and will tolerate both sun and semi-shade.
Now is such a good time to go for a wonder through your nursery and see what’s available. If you want to delve deeper into what to do in your courtyard, book a consultation here.
